This 8-lesson middle school science course introduces learners to Earth as a dynamic system, from the planet’s deep interior to the atmosphere above. Students will build conceptual understanding of Earth’s layers and how internal and surface processes interact to shape landforms, drive natural events, and influence weather and climate. Through clear explanations, teacher-led investigations, and real-world examples, learners examine plate tectonics, earthquakes, and volcanoes, learn how rocks form and change in the rock cycle, and study atmospheric processes that create weather and climate patterns. The course emphasizes scientific reasoning: identifying patterns, determining causes and effects, and connecting multiple Earth systems to explain events such as storms, eruptions, and human impacts. Lessons are designed for ages 11–14 (grades 6–8) and balance conceptual models with practical observations and simple classroom investigations. By the end of the course, students should be able to describe Earth’s internal structure, explain how plate movements and surface processes create landforms, summarize the rock cycle, and differentiate weather from climate while considering human influence on natural systems.

Paid once.
Eight teacher-led lessons combine explanations, guided investigations, diagrams, and real-world examples. Each lesson focuses on one core Earth systems topic, building scientific reasoning through observation, discussion, and connections between processes.
Describe Earth’s internal structure and how scientists study it
Explain plate tectonics and how plate movement shapes Earth’s surface
Understand causes and effects of earthquakes and volcanic activity
Describe the rock cycle and how rocks change over time
Differentiate weather and climate and recognize human impacts on Earth systems
No prior experience required. Suitable for learners ages 11–14 (Grades 6–8).
