Roblox Volcanoes and Earthquakes: Earth Science Builds

Our planet is always changing, sometimes slowly and sometimes in dramatic ways. In this eight-week course learners in grades 3 to 5 explore Earth's surface and the forces that shape it by building landforms in Roblox Studio.

Learners begin with Earth's layers and build a cutaway model showing the crust, mantle and core. Next they learn about tectonic plates and build a map showing where plates meet. Over the following weeks learners explore volcanoes, building a cone volcano with a magma chamber and lava flow, and compare different volcano types. They then investigate earthquakes, building fault lines and simple structures and using scripted shaking to see which buildings stay standing.

In later weeks learners explore how mountains form, how rivers carve valleys, and the three main rock types and how they change in the rock cycle. They add labeled examples of each to their world. The final project is an Earth science island that includes a volcano, a fault zone, a mountain range and a river valley, each with an information sign.

The teacher explains each topic with diagrams and real-world examples from places like Hawaii and Iceland. Learners share what they built and answer quick questions to check understanding.

By the end learners will understand key earth science concepts and have an island full of landforms they built themselves. No coding experience is required.
