Scratch Game Club: Build a New Game Every Week

This weekly Scratch Game Club gives learners ages 6–9 (grades 2–4) hands-on practice building a new playable game each meeting. Every session introduces a fresh project—arcade games, platformers, racers, puzzles and boss battles—so students try a variety of game types while practicing core coding skills. Each class walks students through step-by-step coding for a complete game, then encourages personalization with original artwork, sounds, levels, and power-ups. Sample projects include a coin-collecting maze, space defender shooter, endless runner, platform adventure, car race, dragon boss battle, puzzle escape room, and seasonal themed games. Projects are independent, so learners can join at any time without prior classes. Throughout the club, students work with events, loops, conditionals, variables, operators, cloning, collisions, scoring, timers and simple level design. They also build animations using costumes and sounds to bring characters and effects to life. The class balances guided instruction with creative choice so kids both learn programming fundamentals and express their own game ideas.
