Scratch Coding: Create Games and Animations (Grades 2-5)

This 12-week Scratch coding course guides students through hands-on projects that build core programming skills and creativity. Each class centers on a new project—from animated scenes and interactive doodles to simple games—so learners practice specific techniques while seeing immediate results. Lessons combine a teacher-led demonstration, guided coding practice, and time for students to customize and iterate on their projects. Projects introduce sprite animation, costumes and backgrounds, sound integration, movement commands like glide and go to, collision detection, broadcasting, loops, conditionals, and debugging strategies. Students also develop storytelling skills through multi-scene animations and a final integrated project that brings together the concepts they learned. No prior Scratch experience is required. The course emphasizes problem solving, creative expression, and perseverance as students debug and refine their work. By the end of the course, learners will confidently create playable games and short animated stories using Scratch’s block-based interface and will have a portfolio of finished projects to share.
