Roblox Code Your Own Adventure: Game Coding for Girls

Many girls love playing Roblox but have never tried building their own games. This eight-week course creates a welcoming space for girls aged 8 to 12 to learn coding together and design an adventure game that reflects their own ideas.

Learners begin by imagining their adventure world, such as an enchanted garden, an underwater kingdom or a space academy, and sketching characters and goals. They then build the world in Roblox Studio and write their first Lua scripts to make objects react when touched. Over the next weeks learners code collectibles and a score counter, doors that open with keys, and a friendly character who gives the player a mission.

In the middle of the course learners design puzzles, such as pressure plates that must be pressed in order or colored tiles that reveal a hidden path. They add rewards like new outfits, sparkles or access to secret areas. Later weeks focus on polish and storytelling, adding sounds, lighting and a celebration ending.

The teacher shares stories of women in game development and technology and encourages learners to help each other, ask questions and take creative risks. Learners present their adventures to the group and give positive feedback.

By the end each learner will have a playable adventure game and new confidence as a coder. No prior coding experience is required.

How classes work

Each class mixes a short coding lesson with collaborative build time. Learners share progress and support each other in a small group setting.

• Week 7: Rewards and Polish – Add rewards, sounds and lighting.

• Week 8: Adventure Showcase – Present games and give positive feedback.

No coding experience needed. Basic Roblox Studio navigation is helpful.
