This 12-week introductory course helps learners ages 9 and up turn ideas into clear, persuasive arguments and learn to disagree respectfully. Students will learn how formal debates are organized, how to craft strong opening speeches, how to build a logical case, and how to spot and refute opposing points. The course covers questioning and cross-examination techniques, quick interventions, delivery skills (voice, pacing, and body language), persuasive tools like examples and analogies, and strategies for weighing arguments and closing effectively. Classes use weekly themes—superheroes, robots, sports, movies, and more—to keep activities engaging while practicing real debate skills. Instruction is interactive and supportive: short concept mini-lessons introduce a skill, followed by games, drills, partner work, and guided practice debates. Students spend most of each session speaking, responding to peers, and receiving constructive feedback. The format emphasizes skill-building that applies across many debate styles rather than training in a single competitive format. By the end of the program, students will be able to organize structured arguments, present clear opening and summary speeches, ask purposeful questions, and respond on the spot with confidence. The course is suitable for beginners and will prepare learners to participate in classroom debates, school clubs, or informal competitions if they choose.

Paid once.
