Not-Too-Scary Story Lab: Create a Monster Tale

Ages 6–8 · 40 min · 2 / Week
$17.00per classSee schedule

This one-time workshop helps young writers practice clear, persuasive opinion writing using fun Halloween topics. Students choose a topic that excites them—best candy, favorite costume, or scariest (but not too scary) monster—and learn to state their opinion clearly. Guided activities teach them how to give one or more supporting reasons and connect ideas with simple linking words like because, and, and also. Throughout the class, kids draft a short opinion piece, add supporting details, and practice reading it aloud in a friendly, low-pressure setting. The session emphasizes confidence in speaking, basic organization (introduction, reasons, and a closing sentence), and playful peer discussion where students can defend their choices in a respectful way. By the end of the workshop each child will have a finished opinion paragraph they wrote themselves, spoken-practice sharing that paragraph, and a gentle introduction to persuasive writing skills they can build on. The class is energetic, encouraging, and designed for beginners—no prior experience needed. Recommended for children in grades 1-2 (ages 6-8).
