This 10-session course helps learners build the core skills of formal debate and confident public speaking. Designed for grades 4-6 (ages 9-12), the class focuses on organizing logical cases, crafting strong opening speeches, responding to opponents, and delivering persuasive summaries. Lessons use fun weekly themes—superheroes, robots, sports, and more—to keep practice engaging while reinforcing technique. Students will learn how debates are structured and the roles of different speakers, how to build multiple supporting arguments, and how to spot and refute weaknesses in other cases. We practice cross-examination and points of information so learners develop sharp questioning and on-the-spot reasoning. Delivery work covers voice, pacing, body language, and rhetorical tools like examples and analogies that make arguments more convincing. Teaching is interactive and supportive: most class time is spent speaking, debating, and receiving feedback. Activities include short concept mini-lessons, drills and games that build skills, small-group exercises, and full or mini debates. The course is not tied to a single competitive format; instead it teaches universal skills—content, argumentation, rebuttal, questioning, and strategy—that apply across classroom and tournament settings. By the end of the program, students will be more confident speaking in front of others, better at constructing and defending arguments, and more capable of thinking quickly during unexpected questions or impromptu rounds.
