Grade 2 Homeschool Curriculum: English, Math & Science

This full-year Grade 2 homeschool curriculum brings English Language Arts, Math, and Science together in a consistent, structured program. Over 36 weeks students attend four 40-minute live classes each week (144 sessions total) in small groups to ensure participation and individualized feedback. Each week follows a predictable schedule: one Reading and Vocabulary class, one Math class, one Grammar and Writing class, and one Science class (some weeks the fourth session becomes a Math review). Reading lessons focus on fluent reading, vocabulary growth, and comprehension skills through guided discussion. Grammar and writing lessons teach sentence structure, parts of speech, punctuation, verb tenses, and short written responses. Math instruction builds number sense, place value to 1,000, addition and subtraction strategies, word problem solving, and an introduction to equal groups and repeated addition as a foundation for multiplication. Science units explore properties of matter, changes to materials, plant and animal needs, life cycles, habitats, and simple investigations. Lessons include modeling, hands-on practice, editing and writing tasks, guided problem solving, and occasional simple investigations or building challenges. Regular review sessions reinforce emerging skills in reading, writing, and math. Small class sizes give each learner time to ask questions, receive feedback, and build independence. Families can expect steady skill development in core subjects, increased confidence with grade-level work, and opportunities to practice communication and critical thinking. Instructors are open to reasonable customization to meet individual learner needs and interests when possible.
