British Curriculum Science: Year 2 to Year 3 Bridge Course

This course is designed for learners moving from Year 2 to Year 3 and provides a clear, supportive bridge into Key Stage 2 science. Over 25 weekly lessons, students consolidate Year 2 knowledge and practice the skills expected in upper primary science: careful observation, identifying patterns, recording results, using scientific vocabulary, and carrying out simple fair tests. Lessons combine teacher-led explanations, class discussion, visual aids, and hands-on activities. Topics include material properties and everyday uses, plants (structure, function and basic reproduction), animals and habitats, simple food chains, humans and growth, rocks and soils, forces (push, pull, friction), light and sound investigations, magnets and simple machines, seasons and climate patterns, and introducing ecosystems. Practical investigation skills are developed through guided experiments, data recording and presenting findings. Throughout the course students build confidence with scientific language and reasoning and complete a consolidation mini-project that applies their learning. Weekly materials are common household items; a detailed list is provided before each lesson. By the end of the course learners are better prepared for Year 3 expectations and more independent in observing, explaining and communicating scientific ideas.
