Halloween Read Aloud: Not-So-Scary Stories and Crafts for Early Readers

This six-class reading experience offers a gentle Halloween introduction for beginning readers. Using the Scaredy Monster stories, each session combines guided read-aloud time with kid-friendly discussion, vocabulary practice, and a small paper craft tied to the story. Lessons emphasize supportive turn-taking while reading, chunky-syllable decoding for tricky words, and pausing to make predictions and talk about characters and events. During classes, children collect new words in a personal notebook, write simple meanings, and draw a picture to help remember each word. Crafts are intentionally simple and use basic supplies you likely have at home; examples include monster-themed bookmarks and small keepsakes that relate to that day’s story. Every session stands on its own, so children can join any class without prior attendance.
