Cartoon Animation Level 2: Weekly Club for Ages 6-11

This weekly club expands students' animation skills through hands-on practice and guided demos. Each session begins with warm-up games and quick drawing exercises, followed by a focused demonstration of a technique—gesture drawing, looping and easing, layering, sound syncing, or digital coloring. Kids then work on their own pieces, applying new techniques to characters and scenes they choose. Sessions include time for sharing work and giving constructive feedback in a supportive group. Over the course, learners explore character expressions, phoneme shapes for basic lip sync, recording voice, motion cycles like jumps and runs, and layering for parallax movement. We practice easing and looping to make movement feel natural, and use simple simulated camera pans and zooms to enhance storytelling. The class also covers adding fades, flashes, and glitch-style effects and polishing work with digital coloring and perspective. Students develop a final animated project in stages—storyboarding and timing, animating an intro and mid-scene, then completing and polishing the animation for a virtual art show. The instructor adapts activities for varying skill levels, offers patient encouragement, and provides optional printable handouts. Parents receive weekly check-ins to track progress.
