5th Grade Math: Full Curriculum

This ongoing, twice-weekly math club strengthens essential Grade 5 skills through visual explanations, guided practice, and real-world problems. Lessons focus on building procedural fluency and conceptual understanding so learners can solve multi-step problems and explain their reasoning. Instruction and practice cover place value (from millions to thousandths), powers of ten, multi-digit multiplication and division, order of operations, and writing and evaluating numerical expressions. Students learn fractions and mixed-number operations, fraction multiplication and division involving unit fractions, and decimal operations including real-world word problems. Measurement and data topics include unit conversions, area and perimeter with fractional side lengths, and line plots using fractional measurements. Geometry units address coordinate graphing in the first quadrant, classifying polygons, and shape hierarchies. Volume work uses unit cubes and formulas for rectangular prisms and composite figures. Each week typically includes two focused topics, plus regular review, quizzes, error analysis, and problem-solving workshops. The course concludes with exam preparation sessions and an end-of-year assessment that reviews skills students need for success in 6th grade. Instruction uses models, visual tools, and scaffolded practice so students build confidence and accuracy across number operations, expressions, measurement, geometry, and data interpretation.
