Class Experience

This level focuses on reading and performing quarter, eighth, and sixteenth notes, expanding patterns from 8 to 32 measures, and exploring simple and compound meters (2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 6/8, 9/8, 12/8). Lessons build physical stamina, counting accuracy, independent reading, and expressive performance culminating in a capstone assessment or performance.

Learning Outcomes

  • Generate rhythmic ideas and variations within a given meter

  • Document rhythmic ideas using standard notation or recordings

  • Present created rhythmic music and explain its expressive intent

  • Select and explain performance repertoire choices and perform with technical accuracy

Prerequisites

Drum Pad Skills Level 1 Ages 6-9

  1. Drum sticks

  2. Drum pad or something to drum on

  3. Pencil (ready to use)

  4. Printed or digital copy of the weeks' cadences for class discussion
