Class Experience

This course focuses on subjects, verbs, coordinating and subordinating conjunctions, and correct comma usage across simple, compound, and complex sentences. Lessons combine direct instruction and practice to help students avoid run-ons and fragments and to build varied sentence structures through guided activities and class participation.

Learning Outcomes

  • Identify simple, compound, and complex sentence types

  • Recognize subjects, verbs, coordinating and subordinating conjunctions

  • Apply correct punctuation to avoid run-ons and fragments

  • Compose varied sentence structures in independent writing

Learning Needs Support

If needed, learners will be given additional time to complete in-class work outside of class time. Also, learners will often have choices within a topic about what to write about and will be given examples (models) to work from.

Prerequisites

Materials needed:

Teacher will provide all worksheets.

In addition to Outschool classroom, students will need to have a designated folder, notebook paper, pencil, eraser, and a photo/scanner application.
