Rock Club: Rocks, Minerals and Crystal Exploration

A weekly interactive club that introduces rocks, minerals and geology using slides, show-and-tell, themed dress-up, and review games. Students share a favorite rock, learn about types such as quartz and crystals, begin a rock collection and create a rock garden. Safety guidance encourages lightweight samples and adult supervision when collecting.

Materials needed:

• A place close by to find rocks (such as a yard, garden, or park)

• A box, egg carton, tackle box, or any other container to collect rocks into.

• A small space for a rock garden outside, or inside the home (whatever is allowed by the parent).

• Finger paint (I recommend craft paint more, finger paint may not be dark enough, but its up to the parents what the students are allowed to use).

• Small paintbrushes

• Plastic (such as a trash bag) to cover surfaces from paint

• Paper and a Dark marker
