Grade 2 ELA: Full Grammar and Writing Curriculum

This Grade 2 ELA curriculum gives second graders focused, hands-on practice in grammar and writing across 40 live, small-group classes. Each lesson pairs short, targeted grammar instruction with guided writing so students apply rules while composing sentences, opinion pieces, informative paragraphs, and short narratives. Classes meet twice a week for 35–40 minutes, and learners write in every session—typically 2–5 sentences—with every fourth class dedicated to a longer writing task and review. Units build progressively: students begin with sentence structure and common sentence types, then master nouns, pronouns, verbs and tenses, and learn to add detail with adjectives and adverbs. The course also covers mechanics—capitalization, punctuation, apostrophes—word-building strategies like prefixes, suffixes, and compound words, and practical formats such as friendly letters. Regular review activities, mini-quizzes, games, and editing exercises help reinforce skills. Revision and editing are taught and practiced with teacher support to strengthen clarity and correctness. By the end of the course, learners will be more confident forming complete sentences, choosing correct parts of speech, using basic mechanics, and organizing simple opinion, informative, and narrative writing.
