Class Experience

This small-group course helps beginning saxophonists strengthen fundamentals: posture, breathing and embouchure, tone production, basic note-reading and rhythms, articulation, and practice habits. Lessons include warm-ups, tone-building exercises, rhythm activities, group playing, and individualized feedback to build confidence and musical skills.

Learning Outcomes

  • Develop foundational saxophone skills posture, breathing, embouchure, and tone production

  • Read and perform beginner-level notes and rhythms with growing accuracy

  • Improve articulation, rhythm, and ensemble playing while building performance confidence

Prerequisites

Materials needed:

Students will need:

  • An alto saxophone in playable condition

  • At least 2–3 working reeds (size recommendations can be provided if needed)

  • A neck strap

  • Cork grease

  • A music stand (recommended)

  • Music materials will be provided by the teacher

Students should also have enough space to sit comfortably and play during class sessions.
