Class Experience

This 12-week advanced course is for students who have completed intermediate study or who already have a strong foundation in conducting, score reading and rehearsal skills. Instruction emphasizes advanced gesture, cueing, tempo flexibility, expressive control, deep score analysis, rehearsal leadership and preparation of demanding repertoire, including contemporary and historically informed works.

Learning Outcomes

  • Refine advanced conducting technique including flexible tempi, nuanced dynamics and complex cueing

  • Analyse intricate orchestral scores for structure, orchestration and interpretive decisions

  • Lead advanced rehearsal planning and manage ensemble communication for large-scale repertoire
