Class Experience

A 12-week elementary music course combining recorder practice with exploration of orchestral instruments, musical styles, note values, tempo, and rhythm. Lessons use themed locations (e.g., Ireland, Rome, circus) to introduce instrument families and styles while students sing, play recorder songs, and participate in rhythm games. Each class includes expectations, recorder practice, a song or instrument lesson, and a concluding rhythm activity.

Learning Outcomes

  • Identify instruments of the orchestra

  • Recognize and perform basic note names and values on the recorder

  • Demonstrate rhythm and tempo through games and singing

  • Explore several musical styles through listening and performance

Prerequisites

Students should have completed Semester 1, or be willing to catch up on learning a few notes on the recorder.
