This 10-session beginner chess course introduces young learners to the fundamentals of the game in a hands-on, playful way. Designed for ages 5–10 (grades 1–4), each online lesson combines clear instruction with movement games, puzzles, and short guided matches so children practice new skills in context. Across the course students will learn how to set up the board and name the pieces, understand how every piece moves and captures, and discover pawn rules and special moves. Key rules covered include check, checkmate, castling, en passant, and pawn promotion. Lessons also teach simple piece value and trading concepts, three basic opening principles (control the center, develop pieces, castle early), and how to spot illegal moves and common types of draws. No prior chess experience is required. Activities are age-appropriate and emphasize focus, decision-making, and confidence so children can start playing full beginner games by the end of the series. The course uses short puzzles and mini-games to reinforce learning and ends with a mixed-review session and recognition of student progress. Successful completion prepares learners to move on to Level 2: Tactics & Traps.

Paid once.
