Special Effects Makeup Level 2: Prosthetics, Silicone & Creature Design

A live, skill-focused course that builds on foundational Special FX techniques to teach intermediate methods: prosthetic sculpting and painting, silicone applications, latex layering, and creature-based makeup design. Classes emphasize technical precision, visual realism, and creative problem solving while students design and execute character looks.

This class is suitable for students who have completed a beginner FX class or have some hands-on FX makeup experience.

Materials needed:

There are some starter supplies from the Beginner Level 1 SFX Course that are used in this course as well, you may have left over.

Level 2 kit includes 2-part modeling silicone and acrylic board (plus scar wax, liquid latex, fake blood, tools, color wheel) (see supplies for link)

Liquid latex (a larger amount)

Fake blood

Eyeshadow palette that has a reddish color, black/dark grey, purple

Make up brushes

Toothpick

Foundation makeup (close match to skin)

Powder (Face powder, cornstarch or setting powder)

Cosmetic sponge

Small scissors

Toilet tissue

Rubbing alcohol

Petroleum jelly (like vasoline)

Cornstarch

Baby wipes or makeup remover wipes

Hair dryer (if you want to speed up drying)

2-part silicone (if you didn’t purchase the Level 2 kit)

Moldable Cosplay Foam

We will be using this foam clay to create custom lightweight prosthetics!
