This playful Level 1 course turns first chess lessons into a story-driven adventure for children ages 4–6. Using puppet shows, animal characters, music, and movement, the class introduces the chessboard and the basic identities and behaviors of pieces in a way little learners can act out and remember. Children will explore board colors and meet friendly piece pals (for example, Bunny hops and Lion roars). They will pretend to be pieces, practice simple moves through songs and guided imitation, and use short, wiggle-friendly activities so kids can learn while moving. Lessons include gentle turn-taking games and beginner group play like “rescue the king” that reinforce following turns and cooperative play. Every session wraps with a cheerful, positive ending so children feel safe, included, and proud of their efforts. No prior chess experience is required. The course emphasizes social skills—sharing, listening, and taking turns—alongside early familiarity with the board and basic piece movement. Families should plan for an active, playful class where children may stand, dance, or use small props as directed. The course concludes with a joyful group celebration to recognize progress and boost confidence. By the end, children will feel connected to the piece characters and have practiced early focus and turn-taking in a supportive, fun environment.
