Roblox Spooky Escape: Design a Kid-Friendly Horror Game

Spooky games are full of atmosphere, surprises and clever design. In this four-week course learners build their own kid-friendly escape game in Roblox Studio, focusing on mood and puzzles rather than gore or frightening content.

In week one learners plan a short spooky setting, such as an old mansion, a foggy forest cabin or an abandoned toy shop, and block out rooms and hallways. Week two is all about atmosphere. Learners adjust lighting, add fog and script flickering lights and creaking doors that react when players walk nearby. In week three they design an escape puzzle by hiding keys, coding locked doors that open only with the right key, and adding simple clues on signs. The final week brings it all together with a chase-free surprise moment, an exit door and a victory screen.

The teacher shows how game designers build tension with light, sound and pacing, and how to keep scares fun and age appropriate. Learners playtest each other's games and share what felt surprising or confusing.

By the end of the course each learner has a short, playable escape game with at least one key puzzle and scripted atmosphere effects. The course suits learners who enjoy mystery and spooky themes and have some basic Roblox Studio experience.

How classes work

Each class covers one design focus with a demo, then learners build in their own game. Playtesting at the end of each class helps learners improve their puzzles and pacing.

Basic Roblox Studio skills such as moving and resizing parts. No coding experience required.
