Roblox Platformer Adventure: Build Levels With Moving Parts

Platformers test a player's timing and skill, and building one teaches young designers how to create challenges that feel fair and exciting. In this eight-week course learners create a platformer adventure with several themed levels.

Learners begin by learning how jump distance and height work in Roblox, then design a first level with simple jumps that teach the player the basics. Each week adds a new element. Learners script moving platforms that slide or rise, spinning bars to dodge, disappearing tiles and bounce pads. They place checkpoints so players restart close to where they fell, and add collectible gems that reward exploration.

As the course continues learners design levels with different themes, such as a jungle, a lava cave and a sky castle, and connect them with teleport portals. The teacher explains the idea of difficulty curves, so each level is a little harder than the one before. Learners finish with a final challenge level and a celebration area for players who complete the adventure.

Throughout the course learners playtest regularly and adjust jumps that are too easy or too hard. By the end each learner has a multi-level platformer with scripted moving parts, checkpoints and collectibles. The course is beginner friendly and suits learners who enjoy obbies and want to design their own.

How classes work

Each week the teacher demonstrates one platformer element. Learners add it to their adventure, then playtest each other's levels and suggest improvements.

• Week 5: Collectible Gems – Reward exploration with collectibles and a counter.

• Week 6: Themed Levels – Build jungle, lava and sky levels with rising difficulty.

• Week 7: Portals Between Levels – Connect levels with teleport portals.

• Week 8: Final Level and Showcase – Build the final challenge and a celebration area.

No coding experience needed. Learners should be comfortable moving around in Roblox Studio.
