Roblox Multiplayer Basics: Teams, Spawns and Scoreboards

Most popular Roblox games are played with others, and every multiplayer game shares the same building blocks. In this eight-week course learners code those building blocks step by step and use them to create their own multiplayer mini-game.

Learners start with the Teams service, creating teams with colors and names and assigning players automatically or by choice. They build team spawn points and learn how the game decides where each player appears. Next they code a team scoreboard that adds points when players complete actions, such as collecting gems or touching a goal.

In the middle weeks learners create a round system with a lobby, a countdown and a round timer. When the timer ends, the game announces the winning team, teleports everyone back to the lobby and resets the map. Learners also add balancing features, such as auto-assigning players to keep teams even.

In the final weeks learners combine these systems into a simple game of their choice, such as gem collecting or capture the zone, and test it with classmates. The teacher explains the difference between server and player code and models clean, organized scripts.

By the end learners will understand how multiplayer games are structured and have a working team game. Basic Lua knowledge is recommended.
