Roblox Lua Animation Scripting: Make Objects Move With Tweens

Movement makes a Roblox world feel alive. In this eight-week course learners use Lua and TweenService to script smooth animations for objects in their games.

The course begins with simple tweens that move, rotate and resize parts. Learners experiment with easing styles to see how movement can feel bouncy, smooth or snappy. They then build classic game pieces, including sliding doors that open when a player approaches, elevators that travel between floors and moving platforms that loop back and forth. Midway through the course learners chain tweens together to create sequences, such as a drawbridge that lowers before a gate opens.

In later weeks learners add spinning obstacles, pulsing lights and color fades, and they script a short camera fly-through to introduce their level. Each mechanic is connected to an event, so animations start when a player touches a button or enters an area.

The teacher demonstrates each technique and explains how tweens work behind the scenes, then learners customize speed, direction and style in their own project. Learners also practice planning animations with simple sketches before coding them.

By the end of the course each learner has an obstacle course or showcase level full of moving parts they scripted themselves. Learners should know basic Lua variables and events before joining.

How classes work

Each week the teacher demonstrates one animation technique in Roblox Studio. Learners build and customize it in their own level, then share their favorite effect with the class.

• Week 7: Camera Fly-Through – Script a short camera tour that introduces the level.

• Week 8: Showcase Level – Finish and present a level full of scripted movement.
