Roblox Fishing Game: Code Catching, Collections and Shops

Fishing games are calm, rewarding and full of interesting systems to code. In this eight-week course learners build a complete fishing game in Roblox Studio and learn how collection games keep players exploring.

Learners begin by building a lakeside or ocean dock and creating a fishing rod tool. They script casting, a waiting time and a simple catch moment where the player must click at the right time. Next they create a list of fish with different rarities and code the chances of catching each one, so rare fish feel special. Learners display catches with a pop-up and store them in a collection book that fills in as players discover new fish.

In the second half of the course learners add a shop where players sell fish for coins and buy better rods that catch rarer fish. They build new fishing spots, such as an icy lake or a tropical reef, that unlock as players progress. Learners also add weather or time-of-day effects that change which fish appear.

The teacher explains how chance and rewards work in games and helps learners keep their systems fair. Learners playtest together and compare their rarest catches.

By the end each learner has a fishing game with a catch system, collection book, shop and at least two locations. Basic Roblox Studio skills are helpful.

How classes work

Each week the teacher demos one fishing system. Learners build it into their game, test it with classmates and adjust catch chances and prices.

• Week 6: Better Rods – Sell rods that improve catch chances.

• Week 7: New Locations and Weather – Unlock new spots and add time-of-day effects.

• Week 8: Fishing Tournament – Polish the game and compare rare catches in a playtest.
