Roblox Escape Room Game: Design Puzzles and Locked Doors

Playing escape rooms is fun, but designing one is even better. In this four-week course learners create their own escape room game in Roblox Studio, combining puzzle design, building and simple coding.

In week one learners study what makes escape rooms work, including a clear theme, a chain of clues and a satisfying final escape. They choose a theme, such as a wizard's library or a space station, and build the first room. Week two focuses on puzzles and locks. Learners code doors that open with keys, keypads that accept a secret number and levers that must be pulled in the right order. In week three learners build a clue trail that connects puzzles, so solving one reveals the hint for the next, and add a countdown timer that ends the game if time runs out. The final week is playtest day. Learners swap games with classmates, observe where players get stuck and improve their clues.

The teacher explains puzzle design principles, such as fairness and good hints, and provides code templates for locks and timers so learners can focus on design. Learners who want a challenge can extend the code.

By the end learners will have a playable escape room with several connected puzzles. Basic Roblox Studio skills are helpful.

How classes work

Each class combines a puzzle design idea with building and coding. Learners finish by testing their escape rooms with classmates.
