Roblox City Builder: Roads, Districts and Skyscrapers

Cities are huge design puzzles where every street and building has a purpose. In this eight-week course learners become urban planners and builders, designing a modern city in Roblox Studio.

Learners start with a city plan, mapping out a road grid and dividing land into districts such as downtown, residential neighborhoods, a shopping area and an industrial zone. They build roads with sidewalks, crosswalks and traffic lights, learning to keep everything aligned and to scale. Next they construct skyscrapers using repeated floors, glass materials and interesting rooftops, then build houses, apartments and shops in the other districts.

In the middle weeks learners add public spaces, including a park, a school, a fire station and a hospital, and discuss why cities need them. They plan public transport with a train line or bus stops and think about how people move around. Later weeks focus on details like street lights, signs, trees and benches, plus a night-time lighting scene.

The teacher introduces simple urban planning ideas, such as zoning and walkability, and demonstrates building techniques for large scale projects. Learners present a city tour explaining how their design helps residents.

By the end learners will have a detailed city and an understanding of how real cities are planned. No coding is required.

How classes work

Each week covers one part of city planning with a short discussion and building demo. Learners add new districts and features to their city.
