Roblox Battle Arena: Code a Team-Based Mini-Game

Arena games bring players together for fast, competitive rounds. In this eight-week course learners build a team-based mini-game in Roblox Studio using friendly, non-violent mechanics such as tag, dodgeball and capture the flag.

Learners begin by designing an arena with two team bases, obstacles and open spaces. They set up teams with colors and spawn points and script a lobby where players wait for the next round. Next they code a round system with a countdown, a timer and a winner announcement. Learners then build the core game, such as tagging players to freeze them or carrying a flag back to base, and add a team scoreboard.

In later weeks learners create power-ups that appear around the arena, such as a speed boost, a shield or a super jump, each lasting a few seconds. They balance the game so both teams have a fair chance and discuss how map design affects strategy.

The teacher demonstrates each system and leads regular playtests where learners try each other's arenas. Learners reflect on teamwork and good sportsmanship while testing.

By the end of the course each learner has a playable team arena game with rounds, scoring and power-ups. The course suits learners with some Roblox Studio experience who enjoy competitive multiplayer games.

How classes work

Each class combines a short demo with hands-on coding. Learners playtest arenas together at the end of each class and adjust balance based on feedback.

What we'll cover

• Week 4: Core Gameplay – Build freeze tag or capture-the-flag mechanics.

• Week 6: Power-Ups – Add timed speed, shield and jump power-ups.

• Week 7: Fair Play Balance – Adjust map and rules so both teams have a fair chance.

• Week 8: Arena Tournament – Playtest arenas as a class and reflect on sportsmanship.

Some Roblox Studio experience recommended. Basic knowledge of variables and events is helpful.
