Potion Math: Measuring and Ratios in the Wizarding Lab

Potion recipes need precise measuring, which makes them perfect math practice. In this course learners scale recipes up and down, convert between units and use ratios to keep each potion perfectly balanced.

Every week ends with a short hands-on kitchen challenge where learners measure real (safe) ingredients to brew a colorful potion. Math suddenly feels meaningful, because getting the numbers wrong ruins the brew!

How classes work

Each week starts with a short live demo of the new idea, followed by guided practice while the teacher checks in with every learner. Classes end with a small challenge to try before next time.

What we'll cover

• Week 1: Measuring in the Lab – Measure liquids accurately with cups, spoons and milliliter markings.

• Week 2: Doubling and Halving Recipes – Scale potion recipes up and down using fractions.

• Week 3: Ratios and Mixtures – Use ratios to keep colored mixtures exactly the same shade.

• Week 4: Master Brewer Challenge – Solve a multi-step potion problem and brew the final recipe.

No experience needed. Learners need a device with a camera and microphone for live classes.
