What would a reindeer look like if it were a robot? In this one-day winter camp, children aged 4 to 6 become little engineers and build their own robot reindeer from a small box, paper cups, pipe cleaners and bottle caps.
The teacher starts with a quick look at real robots and asks simple questions: What shapes do robots have? How do they stand up? Children then plan their reindeer by choosing shapes for the body, legs and head. They build step by step, attaching cup legs, adding pipe-cleaner antlers and fixing the head with a paper fastener so it can turn left and right. Finally they test whether the reindeer stands without falling and fix it if it wobbles.
Instructions are short, visual and repeated, with plenty of praise for trying. No batteries, motors or electronics are used, so the build is safe and simple for young hands. A grown-up nearby can help with poking a small hole for the paper fastener.
Each child finishes with a mini robot reindeer to keep, a robot name and a special job for it, such as delivering snow mail, plus early experience planning, building and testing like an engineer.
This is a single 30-minute live class. The teacher builds a reindeer on camera one step at a time, children copy each step and the class ends with a robot reindeer parade where everyone shares their creation.

A small box, four paper cups, two brown pipe cleaners, a few bottle caps, one paper fastener, tape, a glue stick and markers. A red pom-pom nose is a fun optional extra.
Most steps are designed for little hands, but a grown-up should help poke the small hole for the paper fastener. The teacher shows every step slowly on camera.
