Fold, Cut and Build Snowflakes
Fold paper to find lines of symmetry, cut a six-point snowflake and slot two snowflakes together into a stand-up 3D snowflake.

A single 30-minute winter class where young learners fold, cut and build paper snowflakes and a stand-up 3D snowflake. Kids explore symmetry and shapes while strengthening scissor skills with a grown-up nearby.

Did you know that every real snowflake has six sides? In this one-day winter camp, our youngest engineers discover the hidden math and design inside snowflakes by folding, cutting and building their own from paper.
The class moves quickly through three short, hands-on steps. First, learners fold a paper square in half and in half again and look for the lines of symmetry. Next, they snip simple shapes along the folds and open the paper to reveal a six-point snowflake, guessing first what the pattern will look like. Finally, they slot two snowflakes together to make a 3D snowflake that stands up on its own.
The teacher shows every fold slowly on camera, uses lots of encouragement and keeps instructions short and playful for little hands. Cuts are kept large and simple so children aged 4 to 7 can succeed, and a grown-up nearby can help with tricky snips.
Children finish with a small set of snowflakes and a stand-up 3D snowflake to decorate a window or table, plus a first taste of how engineers use shapes and symmetry.
This is a single 30-minute live class. The teacher demonstrates each step, children fold and cut along with the group and everyone holds up their snowflakes to share at the end.
Fold paper accurately along a line
Recognize symmetry in a snowflake pattern
Use child-safe scissors with more control
Predict how a cut pattern will look when opened
Build a simple 3D shape from flat paper
No experience needed. Children should be able to use child-safe scissors with a grown-up nearby.
4 to 6 white or light blue paper squares (15 cm or 6 in); child-safe scissors; glue stick; crayons or glitter glue; a piece of string or tape for hanging; printed fold template (optional).

Yes. Folds and cuts are kept large and simple for ages 4 to 7, and a grown-up nearby can help with tricky snips. The class is only 30 minutes to suit short attention spans.
Four to six paper squares, child-safe scissors, a glue stick, crayons or glitter glue and a piece of string or tape. An optional fold template is shared before class.
We recommend a grown-up nearby to help with scissors and to keep the camera pointed at the table. Your child does the folding, cutting and building themselves.
A small set of paper snowflakes and a stand-up 3D snowflake to decorate a window or table. They also get a first look at symmetry and how shapes can be engineered.
