Patterns and Sequences
Teams find the rule in shape, colour and position patterns and take turns as rule explainer.

A 1-week bootcamp of four 45-minute classes that builds the logic and reasoning skills used on gifted program screening tests. Learners team up on original pattern, analogy, number-series and spatial puzzles in the style of common gifted tests and explain their thinking out loud.

This four-day bootcamp is a focused, energetic week of reasoning puzzles for children who are curious about gifted and talented programs or simply love brain teasers. Each day targets one family of puzzles that commonly appears on gifted program screening tests.
Day one is about patterns and sequences, day two about analogies and classification, day three about number series and quantity puzzles, and day four about spatial reasoning, ending with a team puzzle relay. Every puzzle is original and written in the style of tests such as the CogAT, NNAT and OLSAT; no official test questions are used.
Teamwork sits at the heart of the bootcamp. Children work in small breakout teams, take turns as the 'rule explainer' and learn to listen to and build on each other's ideas. Creative thinking is rewarded too: when a child spots a different rule that also works, the group discusses it together.
Each day ends with a short take-home puzzle set so families can see what was practised. Children finish the week familiar with the main puzzle types, armed with simple strategies like checking every choice and testing a rule on every piece, and proud of a puzzle book they designed themselves.
The bootcamp builds skills and confidence; it does not predict or promise any test result or program placement.
Each class opens with a quick brain warm-up, followed by a short example of the day's puzzle type. Children then solve puzzles in teams, share their rules with the group and finish with a fast challenge round.
Recognise the main puzzle types used on gifted program screening tests
Explain the rule behind patterns, analogies and number series
Use paper folding and shape matrices to build spatial reasoning
Work in a team to solve and explain puzzles
Apply simple strategies such as checking every answer choice
No preparation needed. Children should be comfortable with numbers up to 100 and basic shapes.
Printed daily puzzle pages (optional, also shown on screen); pencil and crayons; a few square sheets of paper for folding.
A step-by-step plan of what your child learns, class by class. · 1 Week
Teams find the rule in shape, colour and position patterns and take turns as rule explainer.
Children solve picture and word analogies and odd-one-out puzzles, discussing different rules that work.
Teams crack number trains, balance puzzles and simple number matrices using drawings and counters.
Children practise paper folding and shape matrices, then finish the week with a team puzzle relay and share their own puzzle designs.

Children aged 7 to 10 who love brain teasers or are preparing for a gifted program screening. Mixed levels are welcome, and puzzles have easier and harder versions.
No. All puzzles are original and written in the style of common gifted tests such as the CogAT, NNAT and OLSAT. No official test questions are used.
Each day covers one puzzle family, so a missed day can be caught up with that day's take-home puzzle set. The teacher can share the key strategy from the session as well.
Your child will know the main puzzle types, have simple strategies for tackling them and will have designed their own puzzles. The bootcamp does not promise any test result or program placement.
Quite a lot. Children solve in small breakout teams, take turns explaining rules and finish the week with a team puzzle relay, which builds both reasoning and communication.
