1-on-1 Advanced Portrait Drawing Coaching

This advanced 1-on-1 course is for teens who already draw confidently and want to master the portrait. The teacher reviews the learner's portfolio and tailors each session to their goals.

Sessions cover facial proportions, features, values, likeness and expression, using reference photos and master studies. Learners finish with several polished portraits suitable for an art portfolio.

How classes work

Every session is private and paced to the learner. The teacher starts by checking where the learner is, adjusts the plan to their goals and gives detailed feedback in every class.

What we'll cover

• Session 1: Portfolio Review and Goals – Review past work and set portrait goals.

• Session 2: Proportions of the Head – Construct the head front, three-quarter and profile.

• Session 3: Eyes and Brows – Render realistic eyes with highlights and form.

• Session 4: Nose, Mouth and Ears – Model the remaining features with soft and hard edges.

• Session 5: Values and Lighting – Light a portrait dramatically with a full value range.

• Session 6: Likeness and Expression – Complete a finished portrait focused on likeness and emotion.

Learners should already be comfortable with shading and basic proportion. Device with camera so the teacher can see their work.
