Sonic Speed Math: Rings, Speed and Distance

Sonic is all about speed, which makes him a perfect math coach. In this four-week course learners use ring counts, level times and running speeds to practise multiplication, division, measurement and simple rates.

Each class starts with a short game-inspired challenge, such as how many rings Sonic collects in three zones or how long a level takes at different speeds. Learners solve problems step by step, explain their thinking and finish each week with a quick speed round to test their new skills.

How classes work

Each week starts with a short live demo of the new idea, followed by guided practice while the teacher checks in with every learner. Classes end with a small challenge to try before next time.

What we'll cover

• Week 1: Ring Counting Challenges – Add and multiply ring totals across zones and check answers with estimation.

• Week 2: How Fast Is Sonic? – Compare speeds in a table and learn what miles per hour really means.

• Week 3: Level Timer Math – Work with minutes and seconds to find the fastest route through a level.

• Week 4: Speed Run Finale – Solve a mixed set of speed, distance and time problems in a timed team challenge.

No experience needed. Learners need a device with a camera and microphone for live classes.
