1-on-1 Math Competition Coaching (MATHCOUNTS and AMC 8)

Math competitions reward creative problem solving, not just fast calculation. This twelve-session course coaches advanced students in the strategies and topics that appear most often on MATHCOUNTS and AMC 8.

After a diagnostic, the coach works through counting, probability, number theory, geometry and algebra with real contest problems, then builds speed with timed practice and a full mock contest.

How classes work

Every session is private and paced to the learner. The teacher starts by checking where the learner is, adjusts the plan to their goals and gives detailed feedback in every class.

What we'll cover

• Session 1: Diagnostic – Take a short diagnostic to find strengths and gaps.

• Session 2: Problem-Solving Strategies – Learn strategies like working backwards and finding patterns.

• Session 3: Counting – Solve counting problems with permutations and combinations.

• Session 4: Probability – Solve probability problems using counting methods.

• Session 5: Number Theory 1 – Work with primes, factors and divisibility rules.

• Session 6: Number Theory 2 – Solve remainder and modular arithmetic problems.

• Session 7: Geometry 1 – Solve angle, area and perimeter problems.

• Session 8: Geometry 2 – Use similar triangles and the Pythagorean theorem.

• Session 9: Algebra – Solve contest algebra problems and systems.

• Session 10: Speed Practice – Build speed and accuracy with timed sprint rounds.

• Session 11: Mock Contest – Take a full timed mock contest.

• Session 12: Review – Review mock results and plan for contest day.
