Applying to an independent or private school often means sitting an entrance exam, and the two most common are the ISEE and the SSAT. This one-time class takes the mystery out of both so students know what to expect and how to start preparing calmly.
We begin by comparing the two exams: the main sections, the different levels by grade, and how verbal, reading, quantitative and writing parts are organised. Students then try short sets of original practice questions written in the style of each section, including synonyms and analogies, reading passages, and quantitative reasoning.
Next we focus on strategy. Students learn how to pace a section, when to skip and return, and how each exam's scoring rules affect guessing decisions, with a reminder to check the current rules on the official exam websites. We also look briefly at the writing sample and how to plan a short, clear response.
The final part is about calm and organisation. Students build a simple study plan for the weeks before their exam date and practise a quick breathing reset for test day. No official test questions are used, and the class does not promise any score or admission result.
Shy and anxious students are welcome. Answers can be typed in the chat, cameras are optional during practice, and the teacher never puts anyone on the spot.
The teacher explains each section with a short on-screen example, then students try a few original practice questions and discuss strategies. The class ends with each student filling in a personal study plan.
