Latin Dance Club: Salsa and Merengue

Salsa and merengue are two of the most joyful dances in the world. In this weekly club kids learn the basic steps, feel the rhythms of Latin music and add turns and styling as they grow more confident.

Every session also shares a little about where the dance comes from, such as the Dominican Republic, Cuba or Puerto Rico, so kids understand the culture behind the moves. Dancing is solo, so no partner is needed at home.

How classes work

Each weekly session opens with a quick warm-up and a short new idea, then learners work on the session's challenge together while the teacher guides the group. Sessions end with time to share. New learners can join any week because each session stands on its own.

What we'll cover

• Session theme 1: Merengue Basics – Learn the merengue march step and hip action to upbeat music.

• Session theme 2: Salsa Basics – Learn the salsa basic and find the 1-2-3, 5-6-7 count.

• Session theme 3: Turns and Styling – Add simple turns, arm styling and shines to the basics.

• Session theme 4: Latin Dance Party – Combine everything in a short routine and dance-party finale.

Some prior experience is helpful. Learners need a device with a camera and microphone for live classes.
