Shark Math: Speed, Size and Graphs

Sharks are perfect for math: they come in every size from pocket-sized to bus-sized, swim at very different speeds and travel huge distances. In Shark Math, learners use real shark data to solve problems that matter to marine scientists.

Each week tackles a new skill, such as scale drawings, speed and distance, averages and graphs. Learners finish by running a small investigation of their favorite shark species and presenting what the numbers reveal.

How classes work

Each week starts with a short live demo of the new idea, followed by guided practice while the teacher checks in with every learner. Classes end with a small challenge to try before next time.

What we'll cover

• Week 1: Shark Sizes to Scale – Compare shark species using scale drawings and multiplication.

• Week 2: Speed and Distance – Solve problems about how far sharks swim in an hour and a day.

• Week 3: Average Shark Data – Find averages for shark sizes, teeth and dive depths.

• Week 4: Shark Data Investigation – Graph data about one species and present conclusions to the class.

No experience needed. Learners need a device with a camera and microphone for live classes.
