Roblox Story Game Studio: Write and Build a Narrative Adventure

Great games often start with a great story. In this eight-week course learners combine creative writing and game building to create a narrative adventure in Roblox Studio.

Learners begin with storytelling basics, including characters, setting, conflict and a story arc with a beginning, middle and end. They brainstorm an original story, such as a lost explorer searching for home or a young inventor saving their town, and write a short story outline. Next they create character profiles and practice writing short, lively dialogue that fits each personality.

Over the following weeks learners turn their story into playable scenes in Roblox Studio. They build settings for each chapter, place characters with dialogue boxes using provided scripts, and design simple tasks that move the plot forward, such as finding an item or reaching a location. Learners use lighting, music and camera angles to show mood changes, such as tension before the climax or celebration at the end.

In the final weeks learners playtest their stories with classmates, check that the plot is clear and revise their writing. They present their game along with their story outline.

The teacher supports both writing and building, giving feedback on story structure and dialogue. No coding experience is required.
