Class Experience

Scientists and detectives have a lot in common. Both observe carefully, form ideas and test them with evidence. In this four-week course learners in grades 3 to 6 solve science mysteries in a teacher-built Roblox world and then design a mystery of their own.

In week one learners investigate the case of the wilting garden. They observe clues, such as dry soil and a broken sprinkler, write a hypothesis and test it by changing one thing at a time. Week two brings the case of the melting snowman, where learners explore heat, sunlight and materials to find out why one snowman melted faster. In week three learners solve the case of the floating boat, testing which shapes and materials float or sink.

In the final week learners design their own science mystery in Roblox Studio. They choose a science idea, place clues, write a case file and challenge classmates to solve it using the scientific method.

Each session follows the same steps: ask a question, observe, form a hypothesis, test, analyze and conclude. The teacher models scientific thinking and helps learners separate guesses from evidence. Learners record their work in a detective science notebook.

By the end learners will use the scientific method confidently and explain conclusions with evidence. Basic Roblox Studio skills are helpful for the final project.

How classes work

Each class follows the scientific method through a mystery case. Learners record evidence in a notebook and design their own case in the final week.

What we'll cover

  • Week 1: The Wilting Garden – Observe clues and test a hypothesis.

  • Week 2: The Melting Snowman – Explore heat, sunlight and materials.

  • Week 3: The Floating Boat – Test which shapes and materials float.

  • Week 4: Design Your Own Case – Build a mystery for classmates to solve.

Learning Outcomes

  • Follow the steps of the scientific method

  • Write testable hypotheses

  • Change one variable at a time

  • Draw conclusions from evidence

  • Design a science mystery for others

Prerequisites

No prior science background needed. Basic Roblox Studio navigation helpful for the final week.
