Class Experience
Real detectives use science to solve cases, and in this camp learners do the same. Each day introduces a new forensic skill, such as fingerprinting, ink chromatography or footprint analysis, with a short hands-on experiment using simple household materials.
Learners then turn each skill into a puzzle for their own crime-scene escape room, complete with evidence bags and case notes. On the final day they swap rooms with classmates and race to solve each other's cases using the science they have learned.
How classes work
Camp meets on back-to-back days. Each day builds on the last, mixing short demos, hands-on work and time to share progress, so learners finish the week with a complete project.
What we'll cover
Day 1: Fingerprint Lab – Lift and classify fingerprints and design a fingerprint puzzle.
Day 2: Ink Chromatography – Separate marker ink to identify a suspect's pen.
Day 3: Footprints and Trace Evidence – Measure footprints and examine trace clues.
Day 4: Crime-Scene Escape – Finish rooms and solve each other's cases.
Learning Outcomes
Collect and compare fingerprints
Use chromatography to identify ink
Analyse footprints and other evidence
Design evidence-based puzzles
Solve a crime-scene escape room
Prerequisites
No experience needed. Learners need a device with a camera and microphone for live classes.
