Highly recommended for kids 9–13 who like history and reading. The course made the people and places of the American West interesting and the weekly 50-minute classes fit nicely into our schedule.

My 11-year-old enjoyed the stories and the focus on American West events; the reading-based format worked well for his reading level. Only minor quibble: some weeks felt denser than others, but overall very positive.

There are good moments — the historical topics are interesting and the chapters are a nice springboard — but my child sometimes found the single weekly 50-minute lesson didn't give enough time to dig deeper between meetings. We appreciated the content but wished for either more frequent sessions or additional ways to reinforce the material.

This class was exactly what we were looking for. Using 'A Chicken Was There' as a jumping-off point made learning about different people and places in the American West feel accessible, and the weekly structure over 13 weeks kept my child engaged without overwhelming them.
