Karate Yellow-to-Orange Belt: Shorin-Ryu Basics

Overall a strong program—my 8-year-old built solid fundamentals in Shorin-Ryu and enjoyed the orange-belt-focused lessons; I would have liked a little more individual attention during larger classes, but the periodic tests and graduation demonstration were motivating.

Karate Yellow-to-Orange Belt: Shorin-Ryu Basics

After completing the 12-week cycle my 7-year-old is noticeably more confident and technically sharper. The structure—two lessons per week, periodic stripe tests, and an orange-belt test plus a graduation demonstration—gave us clear goals, and the focus on basics like stances and footwork made the kata easier to learn. We appreciated the emphasis on Japanese terminology and consistent practice.

Karate Yellow-to-Orange Belt: Shorin-Ryu Basics

The course covers a lot—punches, kicks, footwork and the introductory kata—and the monthly themes on self-discipline are a nice touch. However, at 4 years old my child sometimes found the 45-minute lessons a bit long and the pace moved quickly during some weeks, so we had to practice extra at home to keep up.
