Creative Writing Camp: Crafting Strong Story Openings

We signed up for the one-week, five-lesson course and my 13-year-old liked the structure—each lesson was about 45 minutes and concentrated on crafting strong openings. The emphasis on practical techniques and producing an original opening made it feel productive. It was a little fast-paced for the week, but a good short program for kids who enjoy an intensive burst of writing.

My 10-year-old enjoyed the Creative Writing Camp and came away with a clear grasp of the five storytelling techniques; she even drafted an original opening in her favorite genre. I would have liked the week to be a bit longer, but overall it was a solid, focused experience.
