Nice mix of reading and discussion; the course's focus on Grace Lin's novel and the folklore aspects made it stand out for my 11-year-old. Short weekly meetings were easy to fit into our schedule.

We enrolled our 10-year-old because we wanted a class that explored cultural elements alongside literature. The structure—one 45-minute lesson per week for four weeks—allowed time to really analyze characters and themes without being overwhelming. The emphasis on language and folklore sparked great conversations at home and felt well suited to the 8–13 age range.

As a parent I appreciated that the course focused on characters, themes, and language grounded in Chinese folklore rather than just plot summaries. My 12-year-old liked the discussion-based approach and said it made the book more meaningful. Four weeks was a nice, concise length.

Our daughter is 8 and really enjoyed discussing themes and language from The Gate, the Girl, and the Dragon. The once-a-week, 45-minute format felt manageable and thoughtful.
