Introduction to Marine Biology and Ocean Ecosystems

My 15-year-old has been really engaged in this 20-week Introduction to Marine Biology course. The single 55-minute lesson each week fits our schedule and the pacing allows time to dig into topics like coral reefs, mangroves, deep-sea vs. shallow-water ecosystems, island geology, and regional case studies such as the Hawaiian Islands and Chesapeake Bay. I appreciate that it covers species, life cycles, ecological interactions and conservation challenges including climate change in a way that feels thorough but approachable for teens (13–18).

Marine Biology: Processes, Ecosystems, and Species

As a parent of a 15-year-old, I appreciated that the course covered important marine topics—thermohaline circulation, coastal and intertidal habitats, coral bleaching, and conservation—through four 55-minute video lessons over four weeks. The videos held my child's interest and provided a solid introduction to pollution and invasive species, though I would have liked an option for more frequent lessons or a few interactive activities to deepen the learning.
