Learners in grades 5-7 explore electricity and circuits by building and coding a power grid in Roblox Studio. Over eight weeks they model series and parallel circuits, switches and energy sources.

Paid once.
Electricity powers almost everything we use, but it is invisible. In this eight-week course learners in grades 5 to 7 make electricity visible by building and coding circuits and a city power grid in Roblox Studio.
Learners begin with the basics of electric current, conductors and insulators. They build a simple circuit with a battery, wire and light bulb, then use short Lua scripts to make the bulb turn on only when the circuit is complete. Next they add switches and explore open and closed circuits. In the following weeks learners compare series and parallel circuits, testing what happens when one bulb in each type is removed.
In the second half of the course learners scale up to a city power grid. They build power plants, transmission lines and neighborhoods, and code the grid so homes light up when power flows. Learners compare energy sources such as coal, wind, solar and hydro, and discuss their pros and cons. They also add a blackout challenge where players must find and fix a broken line.
The teacher explains each concept with clear diagrams and simple real-world examples, then live-codes the logic step by step. Learners record observations and explain circuits in their own words.
By the end learners will understand how circuits work and how electricity reaches homes. Basic Roblox Studio skills are helpful, and no prior coding is required.
Each class pairs a short electricity lesson with building and simple coding in Roblox Studio. Learners test circuits and share what they observed.
Week 1: What Is Electricity – Learn about current, conductors and insulators.
Week 2: Simple Circuits – Build and code a bulb that lights when the circuit is complete.
Week 3: Switches – Explore open and closed circuits with switches.
Week 4: Series Circuits – Test what happens when one bulb is removed.
Week 5: Parallel Circuits – Compare parallel circuits with series circuits.
Week 6: Power Plants and Lines – Build a power plant and transmission lines.
Week 7: Energy Sources – Compare coal, wind, solar and hydro power.
Week 8: Blackout Challenge – Code a broken line that players must find and fix.
Explain current conductors and insulators
Build and code simple circuits with switches
Compare series and parallel circuits
Model how a power grid delivers electricity
Compare energy sources and their tradeoffs
Basic Roblox Studio navigation. No prior coding required.
